Experiential Activation for Cultural Interface
Creative & Production Lead

Context
ComplexCon is one of the most intense cultural intersections in the U.S., bringing together fashion, music, art, sport, and emerging media in a live environment. The challenge wasn’t simply “show up”—it was to translate adidas Originals’ identity into a physical space where audiences move rapidly, focus fluctuates, and cultural signals collide continuously.

Designed for an environment defined by noise and excess, this experience imposed structure and restraint to create moments of orientation within chaos.

Rather than compete for attention, the work prioritized clarity, flow, and legibility — allowing meaning to emerge through contrast.

Concept
Rather than treating the brand presence as a billboard or backdrop, we framed the activation as a cultural interface. In this designed environment, participants would discover, interact, and interpret in their own time and sequence. The priority was not attention at all costs, but attention with meaning: allowing the work to invite engagement without overwhelming it.

Approach
The physical build responded to a logic of flow and rhythm, not block display. Spatial zones were designed to encourage pause, exploration, and social interaction, with a visual language drawn from adidas Originals’ heritage that also resonates with the festival’s emerging cultural signals. Materials, textures, and lighting were deployed to create boundaries that felt both open and coherent, guiding people through an experience that was tangible, tactile, and conceptually resonant.

Creative Leadership & Execution
As the lead on this activation, I oversaw the synthesis of concept into reality, shaping the experience from early vision through vendor coordination, fabrication, integration, and on-site delivery. A core responsibility was aligning creative intent with practical constraints (timeline, safety, flow) and ensuring the environment honored both adidas’ cultural lineage and the event’s cultural heuristic. This involved direct collaboration with cross-functional teams, partner stakeholders, and production specialists to preserve coherence under pressure.

Outcome
Rather than existing as an interruption in the space, the activation became part of the lived environment — something participants discovered rather than absorbed. It functioned as a cognitive pause within a dense cultural field, creating a moment of interpretation and connection that felt both authentic to adidas Originals and generative within the broader cultural context of ComplexCon.

The in-house team spent 8 months ideating with our amazing friends at Jam3 on how and what this would look like. We thought we rather outdid ourselves.
